My Thumb (July 2007)

This little story I am going to tell you is a great teaching example, in my opinion.

You see, I have come to a point in my life where my problems, thank GOD, are so small they are almost comical. I wish this for all of you!!! But if I order a glass of wine and it’s not good….well, that’s a PROBLEM. So I am actually enjoying my complaining about these things, because I have been lifted above so many things in this life that seemed really serious to me. In fact, sometimes I go on and on about these little dilemmas, because I'm so ecstatic that they seem so minor in the scheme of things.

So one day I woke up and my left thumb was frozen. I mean frozen. It would not move even a millimeter! I thought “What the heck?” Well one problem that has been lifted from me is hypochondria, and I say this with no small sense of gratitude. That had been one of the biggest healings of my entire life, so when I looked at that poor stiff thumb, I did not immediately go to some dire outcome in my mind. I just thought: “Hmmm, that’s weird.” Again that’s the first miracle here.

So weeks went by; months went by and my thumb was stick straight. Nothing moved at all. I decided to have some treatments. So my beloved acupuncturist, chiropractor and masseuse all worked on me. I overdid it a little, since I was so black and blue that I looked beat up. Then I said: “I will do this vibrationally", i.e., Science of Mind as I do all things. I am immensely grateful for my helpers and do believe they were very instrumental in my healing. I just thought that a week or two of treatments should be about enough. My body would take its time integrating them and I would just go on my merry way and watch this heal.

Now in the course of my healing, I did hear some things from people I respect very much. My brilliant mentor Dr. Connor said: “If it gets to be a nuisance, you could go and have it snipped.” No snipping for me!!! (And he’s the most conservative, Science of Mind person I know!). I heard that my friend’s friend was having surgery for this. Again, NO SNIPPING FOR ME! So I began a practice of constantly telling everyone that my thumb was PERFECT. Poor little thing couldn’t move to save its life, but when all the people I’d told about my thumb, asked: “How’s your thumb?” I always raised it up and said: “IT'S PERFECT!”

Well months went on. In the course of my Perfect Therapy, I worked with many clients both privately and in groups, and sometimes they told me how their problems were not clearing up. I raised my thumb and said: “It’s PERFECT.” I constantly used the little guy as my teaching tool. In Science of Mind we are taught: “Look not to appearances!” As Victoria Osteen says: “I'm not moved by what I see; I'm moved by what I KNOW!”

Well of course you know the outcome of my story. One day last week, I woke up and my thumb was perfect!!!! It kept moving up and down and showing off for me. I am so ecstatic that now I wave at people with my thumb. It’s doing exactly what I told it to do.

So friends, please don’t give up on your dreams. The trick is to put them in the present tense. As Wayne Dyer says: “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”. How many areas of your life can you declare to be PERFECT right now?!

Affirm often:
My life is so perfect I have to pinch myself!!

(And ha ha, now I can, since my thumb is so perfect!)

Sincerely,  Joni
