Your Word is Your Wand (March 2005)

I've had a very specific way of working with students lately, specifically privates.

A renowned Science of Mind teacher from the 1940's named Florence Scovel Shinn published a book called "Your Word Is Your Wand" and it referred to the power of affirmations. I whole heartedly recommend any book by Ms. Shinn, by the way. I personally believe very much in affirmations and find if they are stated properly, they can produce a powerful effect.

The Universe takes your word literally. If you can put some passion in it, all the better.

For about 6 months, I had a mantra: "I now meet a rich fox, who has the following qualities...blah, blah, blah. I said it over and over. I have several copies of this "treatment" in my draft folder.

Now rarely do I have to go out and try to make anything happen in life. Everything comes to me. More accurately, I do respond when I'm intuitively guided to "inspired action", but short of that, I draw things to me with my word.

About 6 months or maybe a year later, a wonderful student of mine said: "Joni, I have a guy for you to meet!" I said "OK, what's his name?"....OK, did you see this coming?....

RICH FOX!!! I swear to God, this is a true story. The thing is, in my affirmation, I never anywhere said that these were descriptive words. The Universe sent me the actual person.

There are other ways that you can use phrases to help you out. I told a friend what a blissful time I was having on my vacation and she said: "Joni, you are a portable bliss machine!" Now that's a good one.

Then I was out walking today and read a bumper sticker that said: "Mobile prayer closet". Don't you just love that one?

On a more serious note, you can go into any nook and cranny of your past, where you made a personal statement of belief or law, and reverse it, repeat it several hundred times a day (!)and viola! like magic you will see a bright new life emerge for you.

So with this new Springtime of our lives, I challenge you to play with words. Be specific, Be accurate. Stay in the present tense and watch your dreams fly back to greet you!!!

Affirm often:
My word is my wand and right now I speak my word for my absolute most divine and perfect happy life imaginable!! Universe, orchestrate situations, people, places and events to bring me joy, love, beauty, riches, health and total fulfillment now!!!!
