Rent A Cop (March 2006)

On January 30, my most exciting, fun day ever, (right at the center of all birthday celebrations, i.e. my BIRTHDAY!), I was racing in my car down the street to get home and get ready to go out to lunch! All of a sudden I saw a motorcycle cop coming after me with his light flashing!

In a split second he came up to my car. Already I had started smiling. I said to him: “Are you rent-a-cop and are you going to dance for me?”….

I CAN’T BELIEVE I SAID THAT!!!!

He seemed taken aback and I followed it with, “Oh come on, you were just chasing me because you wanted to ask me out on a date!”

I think I blew his mind. I think he even started to touch my hand and was trying to compose himself from laughing.

“Miss, you were driving 50 in a 35 mile zone!”…or something like that.

I said, “Can’t you see that this outfit is not that cute, and I have to go home and quickly change into something cuter BECAUSE IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!”

Now here’s a real miracle, because my family and friends know that I celebrate my birthday for 2 months and this was the actual day!

So he said: “May I see you license please?”

He said “I’m not going to give you a ticket but drive carefully! Now what are you going to do?”

I said “I’m going to drive REAL SLOW and go home and change and go out for lunch, but come on, weren’t you really going to ask me out?”

Oh friends, I can’t believe I did any of this.

The outrageous part of this story to me is that, in my mind, only fun things happen in life. Do you realize that never once did it occur to me that this was a “real problem”? I automatically assumed that my friends had hired him to amuse me! And he was so cute; had all those bulging muscles; he just looked like a rent-a-cop!!

Affirm often: I have released all need for drama and struggle. My life is so fun that wonderful, amazing, uplifting, happy events occur every single day.

Sincerely, Joni
