The Exorcist (November 2007)
Right before Halloween, I decided to get in the spirit of my very favorite holiday and watch The Exorcist on TV. It got four stars, and is a classic of modern horror. Believe me I never watch horror and I have never watched this movie before but what the heck? It would scare me and I would be in fine Halloween form.
Well, let me tell you it’s one scary movie. I kept channel surfing just to be able to handle the intensity of it. I suspect many of you have seen this movie but I will be careful not to spill too many details should you want to view it.
The theme of the movie is that Satan himself has inhabited a 12 year old girl. It takes some time for the plot to unfold, revealing that this is in fact a demonic possession that requires what the Catholic Church calls Exorcism. Being brought up Catholic I am familiar with several mysterious unexplained conditions that some Catholics have experienced. I remember very well during my childhood, there lived a woman, who bled from her hands and her feet, and bled a crown of thorns across her head. She was called a Stigmata. So there were things in my background that were unexplainable leaving me scared or uncomfortable about these all those years. But at the same time I find myself fascinated by them as well.
In this brilliant movie, two priests are called in to perform the right of Exorcism. Holy Water is splashed over the victim and a series of devout prayers begin. The intensity of the Evil One increases. The priests pray more. Satan uses personal information against one of the priests who begins to succumb to his own guilt. The older priest admonishes him: “Don’t listen!” He is so strongly enticed by Satan that tragedy ensues. In the end, more atrocities occur, which I will not detail in the event you would choose to see this absolutely spellbinding movie.
At 11Pm I had to ask myself: Why did I watch that???
Today I got this quote:
To suffering there is a limit; to fearing, none. -Francis Bacon, essayist, philosopher, and statesman (1561-1626)
So often, I will begin working with a client and in a way it’s like their minds are possessed! They are thinking so negatively, (as I had in my past), and they are manifesting according to their negative thoughts and feelings. As Abraham says: “What you think, what you say and what you feel are all a vibrational match. There are no exceptions.” And going along in a negative direction, it will get worse. And often by the time I’m called in, it has.
The final scene where the Exorcism is being performed is absolutely riveting. These courageous priests are declaring with every bit of power in them, for Satan to leave. I remember many years ago, my beloved Science of Mind teacher Janet Levy throwing her Science of Mind book down on the table and shouting, when she felt she was being possessed by her own negative thinking. Sometimes it just takes that kind of strength to turn to the Light.
Now, none of this newsletter is really suggesting a belief in Satan or the Devil or any of these things, but in this week of Halloween and my attending the Day of the Dead today, I’ve wanted to throw some Light on how we can call upon the Power of God to redeem us from anything, no matter how horrific our minds have caused it to appear. We do not look to appearances! All is well in the Mind of God. All is Light. All is Divine. We have to turn with all the power in us entirely away from any adverse appearing conditions and live, move and have our being entirely in that which is LOVE.
Affirm often:
I turn my attention entirely away from that which I do not want. I focus on the highest and best for my life, now, always and forever!
Sincerely, Joni
