What is your mantra? (October 2007)

In Elizabeth Gilbert’s brilliant book, Eat, Pray, Love, she says the following: “……if you could read people’s thoughts as they were passing you on the streets of any given place, you would discover that most them are thinking the same thought. Whatever that majority thought might be—that is the word of the city. And if your personal word does not match the word of the city, then you don’t really belong there.”   According to a character in the book, SEX was the Rome word and for the Vatican it is POWER. In New York City the word is ACHIEVE, in Stockholm it’s CONFORM, in Naples it is FIGHT and so on.

So I’ve given this some thought and wonder what the word is in Redondo Beach, where I am so happy to reside. I think it’s PROSPERITY or EXPANSION. The feeling here is so open, so loving, so beautiful and so free. You might give a moment of your time to think of the word of your city and see if you really belong there too. I’ve come to the conclusion that I really belong here.

Another thing that Elizabeth Gilbert said when she was on the Oprah show last week is: Notice your personal mantra and if it’s not working for you, change it! This is a quote from the show:

  • Refine your mantra. "I say refine, not choose, because we all actually already have a mantra. We just might not realize that we do. Whatever you repeat constantly in your head is your mantra whether you know it or not, and that is leading you on your way," she says. "So if you're repeating, 'I'm a moron, I'm an idiot, I'm a failure, I'm a jerk, I'm a loser,' it's your mantra. So decide whether that's working for you. … Maybe it's not and then maybe you might want to choose a different thing to try to say whenever you remember that you're thinking what you're always doing."

In Yoga Miracles we are constantly refining our mantras. If you take a class with us, you will walk in the room and feel the mantra. Maybe it’s ECSTASY. Maybe HAPPINESS. Maybe BLISS. We are vibrating at a very high frequency. The majority of the people in the classes meditate daily and that is the quickest way to raise your vibration and your personal mantra. Very often, I introduce mantras to see if one clicks with you. Some of my current favorites are:

  • I now lift my vibration to allow a life which is far greater than anything I’ve ever known or seen
  • The riches of the Universe come easily to me
  • I now allow huge sums of money just for being me
  • I am looking everywhere for evidence that I’ve aligned with the same energy as my desire
  • I have absolutely no limits in what I intend to create

All of these ideas lend an energy to the room, the class, the city, the country. I think it’s a good idea to put your personal energy into the mix and thus lift the energy higher wherever you go.
Recently I took a trip back East. I also noticed the mantra of the city I was visiting. I noticed that I was my normal, cartwheel, giggling, screaming self and felt maybe my energy mantra was adding a little sugar, spice and jalapeno wherever I went too.

Have fun with all of this. As Abraham says: Life is supposed to be fun! Boy are we all living proof of that!!!!

Affirm often: I am a fun magnet.

Sincerely, Joni
