A MILLION DOLLARS FROM THE GOD CAN (September 2006)

It’s great when a student writes one of my newsletters! This one comes from our lovely, scintillating Sacha:
I admit it: I’m a skeptic. As a kid, I was encouraged to investigate before forming opinions and I didn’t “buy” into new ideas without checking out every angle first. So naturally, I was a bit wary when my best friend recommended I take “this fabulous yoga class with the best instructor on the planet who will positively change your life forever.” But there was proof standing in front of me; my friend was glowing, her energy level was at an all-time high and she had a huge smile on her face. She looked terrific! I figured “Why not give it a try?”

Days later, I was at my first Yoga Miracles class at Goddess St. Mary’s house. While I could barely manage downward facing dog and had to think about every breath I took, I left the class feeling good and in awe of Joni and the positive energy and openness of the group. Each week I showed up with a yoga mat and open mind, and scribbled my dreams and what I wanted for others onto pieces of paper for the God Can.

Ten weeks passed, I no longer had to watch my classmates before moving into downward facing dog, my life had dramatically improved (funny how small positives add up), the papers from the God Can were burned…and I started hearing about the miracles. First, a friend called to tell me he, his brother and sister had each inherited more than $1 million from a relative. He couldn’t believe his fortune! Just weeks earlier, he had decided that he and his young son would likely have to move out of state because the cost of living in California was too high for him, a single parent.
Then came a call from another close friend: she was thrilled to learn that she would be able to buy her first house. A month earlier, she was in tears telling me about her divorce that left her with just a few dollars of savings, living in a tiny apartment, and a dim outlook. Out of the blue, her sister called and offered to help her with a down payment on a house!

I never imagined that simply asking for $1 million and a house for friends could help. I never imagined that opening my mind to new ways of thinking and letting go of negative thoughts would bring magical results. I’m a true believer in the God Can and the power of our group! Now I’m the one walking around telling people about “this fabulous yoga class with the best instructor on the planet who will positively change your life forever.” Thank you, Joni!
